activated carbon (or charcoal) on the air intake side

I think the answer before is accurate as well. Just some additional info.
The words 'luchtzijdig' and 'waterzijdig' normally mean the air- or water (intake) side of an installation:

As in:
Controle van de installatie: ­ waterzijdig (vullen, ontluchten)­ luchtzijdig, op vrije luchtstroming

Active carbonfilters for fluid applications are very different from the ones used in air applications- I normally deal with fluid applications, see how activated carbon works
