carrier

Support will obviously not work here as that would apply to the canvas or paper etc on which an artist might work. Here in terms of multmedia you need to use the word carrier I think. CD are after all data carriers.

Carriers and supports is probably the best solution in light of the mixture being used.
Note from asker:
I think you're right. However, we're dealing here with both multimedia ànd work on paper/canvas ànd whatever more. Could we still use the word "carrier" if that refers to canvas or paper in some instances? Or maybe we should says "carriers and supports'...

carriers

Cd's and DVD's are data or music carriers. I think this would be the best translation.

substrate

'Substrate' is often used in this sense in in art/applied art conservation and certainly for art on paper and canvas.

OED: amongst other meanings, 'a material that provides the surface on which something is deposited or inscribed'.
Example sentence:

The artist traces the boundaries of a specific vocabulary on the basis of different media, techniques and substrates.
