"mattress roll"

Otherwise may be simply called "bedroll". It is a simple roll-up foam mattress that is back-carried with a rucksack. Different manufacturers call it different names, but I suggest "mattress roll" is unequivocal.

Further to my earlier posting, I have now checked a couple of manufacturers\' / retailers\' catalogues, and the commonest accepted expression is apparently simply \"camping mat\"

agree Dylan Edwards : Something to lay your sleeping bag on? "Camping mat" is probably what they're usually called. Or "foam mat" or just "mat", where the context is clear.

Sleeping mat

This word is based on German "Karimatte" and "sleeping mat" is exactly its equivalent.
Peer comment(s):

neutral leff : german 'Karimatte' you can find only on Czech or Polish sites.

neutral Zenny Sadlon : It can't be just a coincidence that the Czech term happens to be "Karimatka", obviously derived from "carry mat" suggested by Leff, or is it?

carry mat

"A Carry Mat is a foam mat (available from most "outdoor" shops) used to sleep on. It not only covers rough ground (outside) but also provides extra insulation between the ground and your sleeping bag.
When not in use carry mats can be rolled up and attached to your back pack. "

Also spelled 'carrymat'
