German term

zottelkopf

German to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature children's lit
from a children's story about the Olchis, who are nice monsters who love stinky things:
Sie schüttelt heftig ihren Zottelkopf, und die steifen Olchi-Haare scheppern wie Metall. Olchis schneiden ihre Haare nie.

shaggy head

crossed my mind

hope it helps
Peer comment(s):

agree Laurel Porter (X) : We know it's the hair that's shaggy - this does it for me! Sounds to me like she's shaking her head vigorously, not her hair... The hair rattles as a result.

disagree Francis Lee (X) : Even with the context, "shaggy head" means nothing to me

shaggy nob

just an idea for the Olchies... good luck and have fun!
Peer comment(s):

disagree Laurel Porter (X) : Too dangerous for British English! "Nob" has quite another meaning when referring to a body part...

shaggy hair

It's the hair that is shaggy. I also found this in the Oxford SuperLex dictionary:

Zottelkopf
a (Frisur) shaggy hair;
b (Person) shaggy-haired type

You could also use \"shaggy mop\" ( = Wuschelkopf)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jo Mayr : "mop" could be an option because you are repeating "hair"

I think in this case it's effective to repeat the word "hair," but mop is fine, too :)
