When the witness pieces are used to test the optical and durability requirements of the coated component they shall
exhibit the following characteristics: a. The witness piece shall be such that it presents no difficulty in measuring and testing the optical and durability requirements of the coating.

Речь идет о детали или некоторой поверхности, на которую наносится покрытие для приемочных испытаний свойств этого покрытия, то есть piece не является изготавливаемым компонентом оптики, но здесь скорее испытательным полигоном для этих покрытий. Вопрос в том, какой есть стандартный технический термин в русском языке для этого понятия в соответствии с ГОСТ? эталонная деталь, испытательная деталь/поверхность?
