French term

cosaisine

The reason why it's gibberish is that you've left out the first letter, so "The" becomes "he".

Wiktionary does give "joint appeal" for "cosaisine", but if you Google "en cosaisine avec" it's just a fancy way of saying "together with".

@ Oliver Goody-Two You should scold the Philippine Supreme Court: http://sc.judiciary.gov.ph/jurisprudence/2003/aug2003/149495...

You are also obviously better-looking than me.

@ ADRIAN MM Sorry, Adrian, but it's my superior knowledge of the English language that you need to bow down to !!

co-appointed with

'In co-appointment with' ; where various judges preside in a trial, then they are co-appointees; these appointments are presumably by the court or some other official body.

neutral Adrian MM. (X) : 'presumably' is unresearched and suggests the judges have been appointed 'en banc'. It's the matter that they have been 'jointly seised' with.

(crim) joint referral of consolidated cases

We - in advance of the monolingual Brexit referendum - may need, with this prima facie Norman-French legal term, to take a broad, but subtle and sophisticated, penal or criminal view (UK: consolidation vs. civil joinder of actions).
Example sentence:

Ils seront compétents en matière de crime et dans les affaires où une co-saisine aura été décidée

he assailed Order denied petitioners Motion to Consolidate the said criminal case for indirect bribery with Criminal Case No. 26558

neutral Andrew Bramhall : The sentence quoted: "he assailed Order denied petitioners Motion to Consolidate the said criminal case for indirect bribery with Criminal Case No. 26558" - is completely meaningless machine-translated rubbish, sorry;

... the assailed Order..' albeit I bow to your superior knowledge of consolidated actions.
neutral AllegroTrans : In the context of the ST, we simply don't know whether this is about consolidated cases//My reading of the ST is simply that two Judges of the TGI are going to hear a case (presumably the norm is single judge) -nothing about consolidation

consolidation is a throw-away. It's the joint referral that counts on a collégialisation: http://juris.canalblog.com/archives/2007/06/01/5141242.html NB the 'gibberish' quoted is from the Philippine Supreme Court which uses AmE as an official lingo.

jointly assigned

The Court "machinery" "assigns" Judges to hearings. As far as I can tell, this is a case where 2 juges d'instruction are to hear the case instead of the usual single judge.

Not really: a judge is "appointed" when he first becomes a judge; thereafter, he can be "assigned" to specific cases, which is what I think this ST is about
agree Adrian MM. (X) : the emphasis is on the allocation of the case and not on judicial appointment.

neutral AllegroTrans : all well and good, but this does not necessarily help with cosaisine; maybe you yourself can propose an answer?

why? If I wanted to I would have. I'll leave answering to you
agree philgoddard : I think this is relevant, though I wouldn't expect the asker to have found it.

agree Adrian MM. (X) : with the referral (of the matter) answer tucked away in there - seising a judge of the matter is still used in legal EN.
