Norwegian term

bæretråd

Norwegian to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping Railway/technical
Occurs in a marketing translation of a Norwegian supplier to the railway industry in the following sentence, "*** har høy kompetanse innen optimalisert bæretrådopphenging". I am thinking this is some kind of suspension but can't put my finger on it.

catenary wire

From the supplied references, it looks to me like the suspension droppers run from the catenary wire to the contact wire - so bæretråd would be the catenary wire. But please note my confidence level here....
Peer comment(s):

agree Michael Ellis : I am much more confident than modest Per, particularly as 'baere' means carry/support. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_line

Thanks, Michael. THis is not one of my regular fields, but I thought the answer was pretty much there in Eirik's reply. So here's to ASKER: give your points to Eirik, there's a good chap.
