This is ... ... most probably (no pun intended) related to probability theory, which would fit your context, it appears to me. Maybe it's about what they call the "kth moment":

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moment_(Stochastik)
http://www.mathepedia.de/Momente.aspx
http://books.google.com/books?id=X4L2OFo1AsgC&pg=PA958&lpg=P...

Just to give you a lead -- this topic is not my cup of tea at all :-]

PS The above is partially true at best. As far as I can see, generally in mathematics, "k" denotes the number of elements forming a subset of a total of "n" elements -- whichever the actual calculation performed. So I guess it should be "kth".

Aussteiger Außentür
Einsteiger Übergangstür vorn
Aussteiger Übergangstür vorn

Hello Michele, could you post the entire sentence? What exactly do they say is happening with these passengers? Please provide some more context.

k{super}th, or n{super}th

Well, I have seen this used in math where the prof intones...."assuming we have k doors for passengers. The the passengers who emerge from the k{super}th door are ..." and he begins writing some formula on the chalk board that has a variable of "k" in it.

Usually, in the USA, I have seen them use "n" more often, but "k" fills the bill, too.

My thoughts.
