Italian term

ambito di sede

Italian to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy diploma
In the legend at the bottom of a diploma. Courses can be designated as: (a) di base, (b) caratterizzante, (c) affine/integrativa, (d) a scelta, (e) prova finale/lingua, (f) tirocinio/altro, or (g) ambito di sede. I'm struggling to understand what is meant by this term. Any clues?

Amy Taylor (asker) Jan 11, 2010:
Still undecided... On-campus is an attractive option, but I think possibly unlikely given the context of the other designations. That said, it's not clear that courses are allowed only a single designation, but I would think in that event the Uni would be more likely to indicate if a certain course were *off* campus.
Oliver, yes, I saw this too elsewhere in KudoZ, and used something similar, but it still is far from clear to me what exactly is meant. I'll leave this question open a tad longer hoping someone can shed some light on the question.
Amy Taylor (asker) Jan 7, 2010:
The diploma is issued by a university. This entry is part of the standard legend that accompanies all transcripts (or so I assume). I find the phrase quite often when Googling, but always in isolation, as in this legend, which is no help. :(
Dr Lofthouse Jan 7, 2010:
I'm really not sure Amy, but could part of the course be an attachment at the ' headquarters' of an organisation? - it depends what sort of organisation is awarding the Diploma ?

independently decided on by the University for the purpose of credits

perhaps "ambito di sede" is a shortform for "ambito aggregato per crediti di sede", which I have seen translated as above. HTH.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for your help, Oliver. If I get any enlightenment on this I'll post it here. "

on-campus

I think it could refer to any academic activities carried out within the university, i.e. on-campus, as opposed to off-campus activities (e.g. field seminars).
