Bundesgeschäftsführer des RCDS
This is a title which I have to translate
(RCDS is the CDU Students' Association) -is there an agreed English translation for this?
"Federal Leader" is the obvious translation but it sounds so like a.. translation.. All suggestions welcome.

national secretary
Yet another possibility.
The head of a nationwide political organization like this is often called a national secretary.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
Comment: "This is a close call (Kim Metzger's suggestion also possible I think) but having three endorsements swung the balance-also I feel that national secretary is more appropriate for party political positions and executive director for non party-political ones"

federal whip

federal whip = Bundesgeschäftsführer (einer Partei)
Bin aber nicht sicher, ob das auch für diese Organisation passt.

executive director
He was Bundesgeschäftsführer (executive director) of the SPD from 1995 to 1998, and after holding briefly the post of Minister of Transportation and Construction in the first cabinet of Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, he was the first to hold the new post of SPD General Secretary from 1999 to 2002, and thereafter became leader of the SPD fraction in the Bundestag.

general manager
Whether "general manager" is actually the best possible translation for "Bundesgeschäftsführer" may be open to debate. But it seems to be the official option of choice on the CDU's website - RCDS being the party's youth organization (see link below).
