Source text - English 17 MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS (Bacille de Koch) La découverte par Robert Koch du bacille tuberculeux (1882), puis de sa culture (qu’il réussit sur sérum de bœuf coagulé) et de son inoculation au cobaye vint mettre au point final aux discussions concernant l’étiologie de la maladie. Connue depuis l’antiquité sous le nom de phtisie (vocable qui englobait de nombreuses autres « affections consomptives »), elle ne donna lieu à de sérieuses études anatomiques qu’au 18e siècle ou Jacques Dubois (connu sous le nom de « Sylvius ») et Morton identifièrent les « tubercules ». Au siècle suivant, son allure devenue véritablement épidémique, en raison des conditions économiques nouvelles résultant du développement du machinisme et de l’exode des campagnards vers les villes, incita à de nombreuses recherches : Bayle proposa de la définir non plus par l’état phtisique, mais par la constatation des tubercules ; on sait comment la méthode anatomo-clinique de Laennec le conduit à admettre que les lésions tuberculeuses pouvaient se présenter sous deux formes : l’une caractérisée par la présence de tubercules, l’autre à type d’ « infiltration ». Désirant trouver un test histologique, décrivit « le follicule tuberculeux », mais il était ainsi amène à éliminer la pneumonie caséeuse. Villemin (1865), par la méthode expérimentale, rétablit l’unité de la maladie en prouvant l’incurabilité au jeune lapin de tous les tuberculeux, non seulement ceux de phtisie vulgaire, mais encore de la matière infiltrée de la pneumonie caséeuse, des pus ganglionnaires dits scrofuleux, et aussi ceux de la « pommelière des bovidés	Translation - Kirundi MYCHOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS (Bacille de Koch) Robert Koch’s discovery of the tubercular bacillus (in 1882), followed its culture (which he succeeded on coagulated beef serum) and its inoculation to the guinea pig, came to put an end to discussions concerning the etiology of the disease. Known since the antiquity under the name of phthisis (a term that encompassed many other “consumptive affections”), it raised interest of serous study in the eighteenth century, when Jacques Dubois (so-called “Sylvius”) and Morton identified “Tubercles”. In the following century, its pace became truly epidemic, because of the new economic conditions resulting from the development of mechanization and exodus of country fellows. This promptly led to many researches: Bayle proposed to define it no longer by the phthisical state but by the finding of the tubercles . We know how Laennec's anatomo-clinical method led him to admit that tuberculous lesions could be presented in two forms: one characterized by the presence of tubercles, the other seen as a type of “infiltration”. Wishing to find a histological test, Virchow described “TB follicle” but he was thus led to eradicate caseous pneumonia. Villemin (1865), by the experimental method restored a unity of the disease by proving the young rabbit incurability of all TB patients, not only those of vulgar phthisis, but still the infiltrated material of caseous pneumonia, of the ganglion pus called scrofulous, and also those of “pommeliere of the bovids ”
