I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.

This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. I really like ProZ.com and I should’ve joined this platform much earlier. Since joining I've learned so much, from setting up my profile to being more knowledgeable about rates and dealing with agencies or clients.

In 2023, I began shutting down my freelance translator work. At 77, I am embarking on new challenges, but always related to the linguistic skills that ProZ helped me to hone.
I began translating professionally in 1992 and I was one of the first adherents to ProZ. I have watched it grow and expand, and it has been a great help to me, especially in the early years in garnering clients that I worked with for nearly two decades in some cases. The KudoZ terminology tools were essential in helping me build my own glossaries for the types of jobs I was involved in. I recall the names of colleagues that I never had the chance to meet in person but with whom I interacted on the KudoZ platform. It has been a truly rewarding experience.
Kudoz to ProZ.com and their Blueboard for translator and agency ratings!! It's worth being a paying member. I just let a company with late payment know that I was aware they had some negative feedback and that I would add mine by the end of the week if I did not receive payment by then. I also started following their profiles on LinkedIn. 5 minutes later I received my payment via Wise!
