About 90% of my clients have come from ProZ.com. I really don’t have a presence there and barely open the page, but the directory works and the right people have contacted me over the years.

I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.

ProZ.com membership has been my best investment by far at this stage of my career as it provides exposure on the global scenario, a chance to share and learn on an on-going basis, very useful linguistic resources, and an invaluable e-atmosphere.

Being for over 10 years a ProZ.com member, now I cannot imagine a day without visiting the site. It became a part of my daily activities. It was one of the most valuable investments I made during my presence in the translation industry.

This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. I have met colleagues worldwide and found new friends... Words are my passion and this is the ideal job for me with growing children who love to see me around. Being a ProZ.com member makes you more visible. Most of the jobs are awarded directly, bypassing the bidding system.

I have joined the ProZ community in March this Year, and believe me in just 3 months I have felt like being a part of a family which is always there to support me for my betterment. Offers are on a rise, as well as the rates. It is this membership which has given me a forum which also had a positive impact on my personality. Kudoz to ProZ.com and their Blueboard for translator and agency ratings!! It's worth being a paying member. I just let a company with late payment know that I was aware they had some negative feedback and that I would add mine by the end of the week if I did not receive payment by then. I also started following their profiles on LinkedIn. 5 minutes later I received my payment via Wise!

In 3 years as a Proz member I have got quite a lot of work through having a profile here. That's the keyword: p r o f i l e.

I've met several good translators here and get plenty of interesting work on a regular basis directly through my profile. That alone is worth the price of membership.

A few months ago I bid on a job because it called my name. The poster happily agreed to my rate and we've been working together ever since!

In 2023, I began shutting down my freelance translator work. At 77, I am embarking on new challenges, but always related to the linguistic skills that ProZ helped me to hone.

I began translating professionally in 1992 and I was one of the first adherents to ProZ. I have watched it grow and expand, and it has been a great help to me, especially in the early years in garnering clients that I worked with for nearly two decades in some cases. The KudoZ terminology tools were essential in helping me build my own glossaries for the types of jobs I was involved in. I recall the names of colleagues that I never had the chance to meet in person but with whom I interacted on the KudoZ platform. It has been a truly rewarding experience.

I would not be a translator without you guys!

When I renew, I will probably do so for another ten-year period. Let me take this opportunity to recommend ten-year membership to everybody who reads these messages. You do not have to worry about renewing each and every year. It is the best investment you can make. Highly recommended!
