Source text - English The Strathcona Hotel was built in 1891. It was an important railway stop for people looking to start a new life in Edmonton. During the prohibition years, the hotel was bought by the Presbyterian Church, and became the home of the Westminster Ladies College. In 1924, it became a hotel again, and the hotel’s tavern opened once again.

Translation - English A: How many days does it take to attach the rope to the boat and set up everything from start to finish?
B: All that needs to be done is the set up for the tools. So for example, if the collaborating workers didn't make the tools, I would do that myself. After about two weeks, the process is complete. Right now, that work is still being done, so as soon as it's completed, I have to leave early the next morning. But I don't have a boat at my place, so everyone makes them together. Of course, it's not like everyone can use them, so we lower the amount of everything and then manage to unload our supplies. It's not like we can make a living just sharpening our stones, after all.

Source text - Japanese 前回は「心はどこにあるか、腹にある」というテーマで、西原克成氏の研究成果を紹介した。引き続いて今回は、最近読んで大いに教えられ、共感した本を紹介する。「皮膚は考える」 (偉田光洋著、岩波科学ライブラリー、2005年) という本である。著者の偉田氏は、資生堂ライフサイエンス
研究センター主任研究員。京都大学工学部卒、同大学大学院分子工学専攻修士課程を修了の工学博士。大学には属さず民間会社の研究者だが、環境が皮膚に及ぼす影響、表皮機能の再生機構の研究ですぐれた業績を上げ、海外で高く評価されている人である。前回紹介したのは内臓に脳がある、という西原氏の研究だったが、今回の博田氏の研究は皮膚にも脳がある、という結論に達している。元をたどれば、腸、心臓、肺などの内臓も神経も脳も、そして表皮も外胚葉に由来している。したがって脳と内臓と皮膚には共通点があることが、最先端のミクロの研究でわかってきたというのである。
Translation - English Previously, I presented the results of Mr. Katsunari Nishihara's research with the theme, "Somewhere in the Heart, Somewhere in the Stomach." Continuing from there, I am introducing a book that I recently read and feel greatly indebted to. This book is The Skin Thinks (published in 2005 by Iwanami Science Library, and written by the author Mitsuhiro Denda). The author, Mr. Denda, is the chief researcher at the Shiseido Life Science Research Center. He graduated from Kyoto University's Engineering School, and then graduated from the same university's Ph.D. program with a degree in molecular engineering. As a result, he became a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering.
Even though he is not affiliated with any university -- and works as a researcher for a private company -- his research has received critical claim overseas. This is due to the numerous achievements he has made in regards to how the skin regenerates and the impact that different environments have on the skin. Last time, I presented the idea that there is a brain in the internal organs, which was the result of Mr. Nishihara's research. However, Mr. Denda's research presents the conclusion that the skin has a brain, too. Taking this research to a logical point, it follows that the heart, intestines, lungs, nerves, brain, and skin are derived from the ectoderm. As a result, the brain, skin, and internal organs are all linked together, which can be understood thanks to cutting-edge microscopic studies.

This is mainly due to the increase in personnel expenses (for hiring both full-time and contract employees), and due to an increase in rental and handling expenses that stemmed from an increase in direct business sales.

I am a Japanese/English translator living in the U.S.
I have used my translation and interpretation abilities in different capacities over the years. As a cultural ambassador in Japan, I interpreted at several presentations, along with talks at annual conferences held in the city. In the U.S., I have translated numerous forms for financial, legal, and pharmaceutical clients.
I have also contributed to independent non-profit initiatives. One example of this is my translation work for the documentary "Brighter than Tomorrow,” a film that focuses on the aftermath of the Great Eastern Japan earthquake in Tohoku.
