I am a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese based in Chicago, IL, USA. I work full time providing both translation and interpretation services to and from American English in the U.S.A. and Brazil. I have a B.A. in translation and conference interpreting from PUC-Rio and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Northwestern University. As an interpreter, I have vast experience with both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, having worked in a variety of settings (e.g., conferences, academic and technical talks, business meetings, workshops, legal depositions, webinars, trade shows, technical site visits, etc.). I also provide interpretation services over the phone and through video conferencing. As a translator, I have experience in translating small, medium and large projects from and into American English, including basic legal documents (e.g., birth and marriage certificates, diplomas, transcripts, depositions, etc.), technical and academic articles, manuals, websites, etc. I am an active member of the American Translators Association (ATA), the Chicago Area Translators and Interpreters Association (CHICATA), and of the Brazilian Association of Translators and Interpreters (ABRATES). I am also a contract interpreter for the United States Department of State in Washington, DC.
